Embracing Change

Over the past month our team has transitioned from our Vic Park office to our temporary office in North Perth where we will be for the next few months as the fit out for our new home at Elysian takes place. There is nothing like preparing your team for a shiny new office than having them move into a house with one toilet for a few months.

Ablutions aside, it has been a fantastic few weeks in North Perth as we get to experience the town centre on a daily basis before construction commences on Alma Square mid-year. Taking a walk down the strip each day to sample the array of food and beverage options on offer has been truly eye opening despite our activity in the area spanning over 10 years. Istanbul Kitchen produces the most amazing Turkish bread and the best part is you come out with a fresh kebab too, even on a Wednesday at lunch time!

Currently I am down South at Busselton for the UDIA WA State conference which included a walking tour hosted by the local council yesterday. This tour provided a great insight into the substantial investment the city has made in recent times and shows they are serious about investing in their city’s future, not just for the locals but also the hundreds of thousands of tourists that flock to the area each year. Having driven through Busselton hundreds of times over the years, I have gained a new appreciation for all the city has to offer and the Bunbury outer ring road certainly shaved some time off the journey down.

Our conference kicked off with a session by Futurist Steve Sammartino setting the scene for a productive two days of presentations around the theme “Developing the future of WA”. Steve certainly opened my eyes to the world of AI which is both scary and exciting all rolled into one. Steve spoke about the need to embrace change, test the factory theory and most importantly have Courage!

As the industry continues to work feverishly to improve the supply of all types of housing, Steve’s words “it’s not about this or that, it is about this AND that” truly resonated.

WA’s Chief Scientist Professor Peter Klinken spoke of the tsunami of change that is upon us and that to ride the wave takes capability, confidence and courage. This is a time to be bold, not to be timid.

Everyone deserves the right to a roof over their head and collectively we need to do all we can to make this happen.

All the best
