Uphill Running for Vinnies Tom Fisher House

Whilst I should probably be writing about the surprise election result and what I believe it means for the Perth property market (including the fact that our sales enquiry and closure rate has tripled in the past week), I’m choosing to write about my other passion… conquering the Comrades Marathon Up Run whilst raising support and awareness for homelessness.

Can you believe it has been 12 months already and in one week I will be departing to compete in my second Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa – the 87km Up Run!

I definitely feel as though I have prepared well having completed 973km of training runs since January, including 52kms through Death Valley in Gidgegannup.

There are a lot of sacrifices made to properly prepare for such a long, challenging run and many of these sacrifices have been made by not just me, but my family too!
Even our staff have had to endure the odd tired and grumpy Boss!

There are 3 main reasons for going back to South Africa:

  1. To go back-to-back and prove to myself I can do the up run like I did the down run.
  2. To keep fit, both physically and mentally.
  3. To raise further funds and awareness for Vinnies Tom Fisher House.

In order to help Vinnies Tom Fisher House I have again signed up to participate in the CEO Sleepout on Thursday 27th June.

This year however I have decided to challenge myself in a different way…

In addition to calling for donations from all my very generous supporters, I have set up a WA Property Industry Team and I am challenging other property business leaders to not just donate, but to join the CEO Sleepout in their own right.
I figure 10 property leaders each raising $5k is better for Vinnies than me raising $25k on my own.

If it works then next year I’m going to challenge other industry sectors to do the same creating teams such as “WA Mining Industry Team” or “WA Financial Services Team” or “WA Hospitality Industry Team”.

I’m hoping that this new initiative keeps the momentum going and ensures we do what we can to support this very worthwhile cause. Of course if you are in the property industry and can’t make this year’s Sleepout I challenge you to dig deep and make a sizable donation, please!

I am also very pleased to let you know that our very own Matt Evans has decided to sign up to the Sleepout on behalf of Celsius Developments.

Last year I was overwhelmed by the generosity of my many and varied supporters and I’d like to ask you once again to please support this worthwhile cause.

If you are able and willing to contribute please follow this link:

Of course I appreciate there are many worthwhile causes we all support so I understand completely if you are not in a position to support this initiative this time.

Feel free to also download the Comrades Marathon 2019 app to check in on my progress on Sunday the 9th June… I’ll be jogging all day!

All the very best.

Richard
